The Mideast is no longer a caricature of its 20th century self with everyday folk nowadays empowered to transform their Arab world through the infusion of the dialectic of politics into their daily lives. Bayat's keen study about this complex coupling of politics and daily living in most of the world's 17 Arab states has the reader appreciate the steady brewing of a latent democratic fever.
