I think the planets must have aligned, or there was some other rare, cosmic force at work, to have brought these four talented, charismatic, mop-topped lads from Liverpool together. Their harmonies and melodies were just magical (the incredible producer Sir George Martin's brilliant musical direction and influence deserves a mention, as well). This 1964 'mockumentary', (which directly influenced the format of "The Monkees" TV show), captured a brief, magnificent snapshot of their skyrocketing, chaotic lives, almost fifty years ago. Hounded by the press, attacked by mobs of ferocious, hysterical girls, pressured by endless producers, agents, recording studios, stuffed shirts... And even though these twenty-somethings handled all that stress effortlessly... always smiling... they needed escape. Down a fire exit to run around like madmen in an empty field. Or poetically into the sky in a helicopter. With Paul's cheeky grandfather. A very clean old man. The Beatles were genius, and they changed the world. And my life, for the better, for always.
