I'm a little late to the party, only now reading the Jesse Stone series from first to last. Thoroughly enjoyed the original Robt B Parker books ... quick, brisk, snappy dialogue and well-crafted stories. Brandman captured the dialogue in his few books, but wasn't nearly the story teller. Coleman swings the other direction; while he crafts an intricate story (and uses a million words in the process), everything about the dialogue is off and out-of-character. If I were picking up this book 'cold', unburdened by the prior versions against which to compare, I'd probably like it just fine. As a continuation of the series, however, I admit to being disappointed ... not what I would have chosen to see happen to the 'brand'.
