I give this book a 4 out of ten, I gave this book a 4 out of five because it is a very inspiring book. This book teaches me that what is on the outside is not always on the inside. Many this that this book as to offer is the many twist and turns, as in the beginning, you learn that Crya's world is great and hat what they are doing is better. But as you go along into the story you learn that maybe there is more to the reasoning. I love how Roth uses her imagination is this story. The many different things and objects in both stories are very different from other sci-fi books. For example, the galaxy is completely different than what we have, there are many different Planets and then she thought of a way to find out what each planet has to offer. I really enjoyed the new style of characters she brought into the story. Although I did find some similarities with the Characters in the Divergent series, but still I am in love with every one of them. I highly suggest this book to any sci-fi, with just a touch of romance, readers. @Icecream of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board 1/5 I found this book hard to read and I hate to say that because I was such a fan of Veronica Roth’s previous books, the Divergent series. I had been really excited to start reading Carve the Mark but to me, it was hard to understand and didn't hold my attention. In the beginning, to try and make sense of what was going on, I would reread chapters. I found it confusing (and a bit annoying) when Cyra’s chapters would be in first person, while Akos’ chapters would be in third person. In the last few chapters of the book, I thought it became more interesting- but as I said, this book couldn't hold my attention and it took me awhile to get to the end of the book. I have an appreciation for how original the storyline is, and maybe it would have been easier to understand if the author had explained more on the history/ way of life for the characters. I hate to give this book such a bad review as I loved Veronica Roth’s other work in the past, but this book just wasn't good in my opinion. @hansbanans of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library This book caused me a lot of emotional collateral damage. It is written perfectly with the perfect amount of detail, which made it a slightly more advanced read. I would recommend an age of over 15 at least, to fully understand the concepts. For example, everyone knows pain differently. At least, people think they do. Some like causing it, some think they feel it excessively, and others get mixed up between physical, verbal, and psychological pain. With that, everyone has their own way of dealing with it and how to help others cope. This book explored the story of a girl who was raised to use her power of pain, and a boy who had to learn to deal with it when it was suddenly thrust into his life. When their lives collide, as predicted by the fates, explosions will be set off that will leave no one unchanged. I can't wait for another one of this author's books! 5/5 Stars @Siri of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library
