What would it be like to wake up every day in a different body, but with your own consciousness? And what happens to that body's own consciousness when you're there for the day? And how could you possibly explain this phenomenon to someone else, much less the girl you've fallen for? This book is mind-bending, intense, and so compelling I HAD to finish reading it (and was late for my PT appointment). Levithan covers so many issues in this story, it's hard to list them all. Suffice to say that A (the main character) has lived myriad lives through all the people he's come in contact with during his own one (?) life, thus far. I appreciated A's insights into religion (same beliefs, different histories), race (purely a social construction), homosexuality (as in people protesting a Gay Pride parade--"It's like protesting the fact that some people are red-haired"), the devil myth (a convenient scapegoat when you've done something bad and don't want to admit it), Q & A ("Every answer leads to more questions. The only way to survive is to let some of them go"), and returning fortune cookies that aren't fortunes. Everyone should read this book.
