With years of experience working for a top New York designer, Madeira Cutler has learned to appreciate the clean line, rich texture, and elegant draping of a finely crafted garment. It's not until Maddie goes home to Mystick Falls, Connecticut, for her sister's wedding, however, that she discovers her understanding of fashion goes much deeper... Before the accessory shopping and fittings can begin, the festivities hit a snag when Maddie finds her sister's nemesis strangled with the bride-to-be's veil. In between opening her own vintage clothing shop and keeping the wedding on track, Maddie's determined to perform her own investigation to clear her family's name. She soon finds that her best witness may be an antique wedding dress that magically unveils to her the secrets of those who have worn it. But if the gown doesn't talk fast enough, the lives of everyone Maddie loves will surely fall apart at the seams.

This book was a quick read, lightly humorous, and the first in a series The paranormal aspect, which wasn't freaky or over-powering, gave it a bit of an edge. The characters were varied and likeable and the plot had a nice mix of mystery solving, family relationships, and a little bit of romance.

first of a new series - well-written - light reading - humourous - young woman coming into her "witch" powers - seeing visions about murders - usual love triangle - if you like Madelyn Alt you'll enjoy these

Working for a New York designer, Madeira 'Maddie' Cutler returns home to Mystick Falls to help with the wedding of her baby sister, Sherry. But things are a bit chaotic when she arrives and Sherry believes Jasmine, old friend of her fiancé, plans to steal him away from her. And she seems to be getting an edge by joining ranks with her soon-to-be mother-in-law, who feels her son is marrying beneath his class. When Maddie finds Jasmine murdered, Sherry becomes suspect and Maddie splits her time between redesigning an heirloom vintage wedding dress and proving Sherry innocent. In the process, Maddie finds she has the gift of psychometry -the gift of touching something and learning about its owner or about the object's past; for Maddie, certain vintage clothing is her trigger point, namely the vintage wedding dress. The history of the wedding dress is the key to solving the murder, if Maddie can convince authorities to take her gift seriously. Add an unusual family friend, a hot FBI agent, a handsome detective, and a real estate property inhabited by a suave ghost and the story becomes engaging.
