i love the mix of history, Navajo culture, the wild natural southwest setting, realistic characters, and outstanding story telling.

This ranks as one of Hillerman’s best, weaving a complex plot combining myth and human greed.

Tony Hillerman is a master. Reading the books in order does provide important background character development in my opinion, although the books are capable of being read out of order without too much confusion. Tony Hillerman is an amazing story teller and his books are known for being accurate depictions of Navajo culture. This is shown in the mindset of the characters as well as the language of the books themselves. If you enjoy learning about cultures and also enjoy mystery stories - I recommend this series!

Skinwalkers in particular is one of my favorite books in the series, and an important one for the overall plot line following Leaphorn and Chee.

This was my first book by this author and may be my last.

The first third of the book was really tedious to read as the author filled pages with useless,BORING,and unnecessary info about every character introduced, about which clan/tribe they belonged too, that played absolutely no part in the story!

Felt no urgency at all to turn the page while reading it and didn't care about a single character.
