This is a good resource for beginning gardeners. It gives ideas for plants to choose, and the full range of care from choosing seeds to propagation and winter care. No beginner needs to worry about all of these immediately, but sound advice is there for whatever a beginner feels comfortable trying. What this book is missing, as it is now 6 years old, is newer strategies that help with water and soil safety and development, such as are included in permaculture and other organic gardening resources, some of which are available at the EPL. Authors to look for as a beginning are Heidi Hermary, Nicole Faires, Toby Hemenway, David Holmgren, Boll Mollison, and simply checking online for organic gardening references.
