Want a movie with one of the sweetest marriage proposals ever? Then this is your film! There are actually two lovely romances in this movie - one centers around an arranged marriage between a young, upper middle-class Indian woman (Aditi) and her husband-to-be who now lives in Houston, Texas. The second follows their wedding event planner - the effusive P.K. Dubey - and the family's servant, Alice. The joyousness of the wedding, and great footage of street scenes from new Delhi up the delight quotient in the movie. But it's not all sweetness and light - there is a tragic secret in Aditi's family that they must grapple with on the big day. Note: much of the dialogue is in English, but you'll likely need to read subtitles for the Hindi conversations. Want more about the exploration of modern-day Indian/American culture mix? Clever, quirky little comedy.
I love this movie! It shows a non-Bollywood version of contemporary India, portraying the issues and problems that surface in a family during preparations for a wedding.
Honestly do not understand why this movie was so well reviewed. Characters were not likeable. Much of movie involved characters yelling at, screeching at, or demeaning others. But dialog turned out to be pretty boring anyway. There are better movies out there ... skip this one.
Love this film. It was the Bride & Prejudice of its time. Definitely a must see for all.
A wonderful movie! The story has much depth! There is a lot of humour, romance, and wonderful acting! I highly recommend it!.
I thought Monsoon Wedding was just a light hearted rom-com, but I was pleasantly surprised. It deals with family. Very well done!
Monsoon Wedding provides a visually dazzling and deeply affectionate glimpse of the tensions and traditions that animate much of modern Indian life. I highly recomed this movie.
IT IS THE BEST MOVIE IN SEATTLE
