All these negative comments are obviously from people who have no actual experience in the performing arts. This film is so true to life. A lot of stories, personal stories, are left with no conclusion! I, myself, studied for years privately as an opera singer and a week before my audition for the Metropolitan Opera in New York, I withdrew. Not for lack of confidence or any other reason one might expect - it was for, and as cliché as it might sound, for love. The person I fell in love with had no appreciation for the arts. Classical music, opera, ballet, etc. So, there I was and made my choice. I've never regretted my choice, but continue singing to this day and continue enjoying the arts I love. I shared 22 great yrs with that person I gave up a possible promising career for and we raise a wonderful son in that time as well.

Not sure why this became such a phenomenon back in the day. There are two good music/dance montages but the rest is pretty boring and uneventful. Seeing it on stage would probably have been kewl!

It was O.K for a home TV movie. I was entertained and interesting. But it was NOT worth the long library wait or the price to rent from a Red Box. "I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way.”

This movie tries to addess a number of interesting issues, but fails. Fame is a mishmash of stories with potential; however, the plotline is not strong enough to carry them all, and nothing gets concluded in the end.
