This is a bit of a slog to read. The style is of course, authentic for its epoch but it is an internal dialogue, thinking back about his education and the books/ scholars that influenced him. It is difficult to get a hold of the narrative of his life, which a modern reader would find more interesting, I think. Nevertheless it is interesting to follow his thoughts as he develops his political and economic philosophies, compares these to the thinking of his father and other sophisticated thinkers in his social network.
I think the BIOGRAPHY would have been a better start for me to read but I am grateful for the podcast that got me curious about this man who has had so much influence on the development of Western society.
