Part of the "better living through chemistry" era, Tupperware revolutionized food storage and provided housewives with a way to achieve a modicum of financial independence. The Tupperware party was the brainchild of Brownie Wise, who had seen the product languishing on a department store shelf and was convinced that she could think of a better way to sell the product. Her idea eventually caught the attention of Tupperware inventor Earl Tupper, who hired her as vice president of the company.
