John Dean Testifies at the Watergate Hearings Ca. 1973Unknown - 1973
Lawyer John Dean served as counsel to President Richard Nixon during the Watergate scandal. Although he did not order the break-in of the Democratic National Committee's (DNC) headquarters in the Watergate apartment complex, Dean was heavily involved in the cover-up. During the investigation Dean secretly cooperated with prosecutors because he feared the Nixon administration would make him the scapegoat. In this piece of testimony Dean describes Nixon's reaction to Dean's early successes in preventing the Watergate investigation from reaching the White House. Dean was the star witness of the Watergate hearings, as he was the first witness to reveal that Nixon was involved in the scandal.
