In this film, Euphrasia Nyaki, a Tanzanian Maryknoll sister, rediscovers her own roots among Afro-Brazilian poor women in João Pessoa. She encourages them to embrace their African heritage and take back their culture from negative racial stereotypes stemming from the legacy of slavery. Through education, literacy programs, small business projects, and cultural celebrations, they gain the self confidence and pride necessary to break the poverty cycle.
