In 1982 Republican Mike Webb ran against Democrat Robert G. Clark for Mississippi's second congressional district. Webb's campaign slogan was "he's one of us". Some of Clarke's supporters accused Webb of racism, saying that the slogan was an attempt to point out that Webb was white and Clarke was African-American. Webb won the election and served two terms in the House of Representatives.
