The 1917 Russian Revolution forced the abdication of the Russian czar Nicholas II and culminated in a people's revolt, led by Vladimir Lenin, in Petrograd (modern day St. Petersburg). In 1918 a truce between the government and the people was arranged, a Soviet constitution drafted, and the capital moved to Moscow.
