Great Britain Grants Egypt Independence Ca. 1922

In 1922 Great Britain granted Egypt its independence and named sultan Ahmed Fuad its first ruler, King Fuad I. Although the new Egyptian state was nominally independent, Great Britain exerted considerable influence and maintained armed forces in the country. The 1952 military coup in Egypt finally forced the British out.
