Africans Receive Missionary Education Ca. 1930sUnknown - 1930
European Christian Missionaries began traveling to Africa in the late 18th century, primarily to teach native Africans English so they would be able to read the Bible. As the missionary network grew, they established Western-style schools in Africa with the goal of teaching Western values. Missionaries also worked to document African languages in writing.
