Nazis Smash Windows of Jewish-Owned Shops Ca. 1933Unknown - 1933
Following the Reichstag fire in February 1933, Adolf Hitler instituted the passage of the Enabling Act, a sweeping series of laws that gave him the power of a dictator. He began purging Jews from positions in government, directing Nazi officers to harass Jewish-owned businesses, and increasing the strength of the German army. Many prominent Jews, such as Albert Einstein, fled Germany at this time out of concerns for their safety.
