In 1936 Italy captured the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa, and Emperor Haile Selassie was forced into exile. Led by fascist dictator Benito Mussolini, Italy's occupation ended in 1941 when Great Britain supported the effort to reconquer the country, reinstating Selassie as the ruler and securing Ethiopia's cooperation with the Allied forces during World War II.
