From September 1944 through the end of the European portion of World War II in April 1945, Allied forces launched an all-out aerial offensive against Germany. Soviet, British, and U.S. planes dropped bombs on German cities and towns such as Nuremberg, Wittenberg, and Ludwigslust, concentrating on munitions factories and other important military buildings, but ultimately leaving little untouched.
