As Czech translators/E.E. Cummings' studies specialists, Flajsar (English and American literature, Palacky U.) and Vernyik (British and American literature and culture, Technical U. of Liberee) compile ten essays relating Cummings' unorthodox "visual" poetry to topics in less charted contexts. For example, international contributors explore the close relationship between his poetry and paintings (his and the art of others), politics, urban space (e.g., in "Tulips & Chimneys"); and present a psychoanalytic reading of "I(a," or "the leaf poem"). The book includes a Cummings' chronology relating his life (1984-1962) and works to relevant events in history and art, and illustrations of his poems.
