Chojnacka surveys some practical applications of the natural processes by which living things take up and store metal ions, in environmental science and industrial manufacture. Among them are the bio-monitoring of environmental pollution, wastewater treatment, integrated processes, and treating micro-element hunger. She also discusses the fundamentals of bio-sorption and bio-accumulation of toxic metals and recent research findings, similarities and differences between the two processes, and analytical techniques for determining the fate of toxic metals. The research was funded by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education, so perhaps she is Polish, though she reveals nothing of herself. Annotation ©2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (
