I read this book in the 70's and remembered it fondly so I decided to read it this summer. I did like the book quite a bit however sometimes the coming of age "speak" of the 3 boys goes on a little long, but in the end you need to have a good understanding of who Hermie is and how he feels about his fate. At times I laughed out loud at the boys and their banter but I think the reader will get the real coming of age thoughts of 3 very vibrant young men. I thought this book was better and more enjoyable to read than Catcher in the Rye and all of Caulfields exploits.
