In the winter of 1873, a stormy sea throws a ship onto the rocks on the shore of a Nova Scotia fishing village. The villagers work bravely to save the ship's crew but many die. Young Will Murdoch and the local priest discover gold and diamonds. They suspect that the shipwreck wasn't responsible for all the deaths. With the priest's help, Will - who grows up to be a famous detective - solves his first mystery.

Read in less than 1 hour. Reading level is junior high and there are no nuances in the plot. Not recommended for anyone looking for a good read.

A very short and simple story, simply told. Perhaps this is aimed at young readers. A "Hardy Boys" would be more challenging.
