Inventive, playful and thoroughly original, this novel plays with the idea that the world we know is not all it seems and that there is another world just beyond it, one that works mightily to see that our reality is kept merrily spinning.

There are brilliant characters here. But the story sometimes gets trapped in its own cleverness. I also found the footnotes to be more than a little puzzling since they often didn’t have anything to do with the written text. Less verbiage, more matter would be the best tactic to take for any other books in this series.

"Months after he filled out a very unusual job application on a whim, nine-year-old Becker Drane was taken to The Seems, the secret place where everything about the world as we know it - including Nature, Weather, Time, and Sleep - is manufactured. Now Becker is 12 and has become a full-fledged Fixer, and he's got a whopper of a problem for his first assignment: a glitch in Sleep has created an insomnia epidemic that, left unchecked, could mean the end of reality altogether. If you enjoy fast-paced, suspenseful fantasies with great world-building and plenty of puns, give this 1st volume in the Seems series a try." Kids' Books September 2013 newsletter

Great book with a wonderfully creative idea behind it. Perhaps slightly shallow characters, but otherwise, great story, smooth plot and nice lead-in to the next book.
