This 2-disc set from BBC gives you six hours to venture into the parts of China unknown to the average tourists, and even some of its people. Nature lovers, animals lovers and armchair adventurers like myself will get much out of it. And don't skip the 'Making Of' part under Special Feature. Definitely a high-quality BBC production.

Absolutely fascinating documentary across China! The culture, animal and plant life! Very well done! I highly recommend it!

This program is about just a small part of a vast country; I wish there was more about other cantons. China is a beautiful country with tremendous contrasts and many natural beauties and wonders. It is amusing that although being one of the biggest polluters on Earth, China poses as nature preserver! But what did strike us most was the way some people live today: it is almost like living in the Middle Ages! Very sad, especially when one considers all the horrible times China had in order to install communism and purportedly make life better: so much sacrifice for almost no positive results. Makes you want to visit the country, meet the people, but even more repelled by the regime.

This is an excellent series that places the animals that are being examined within the context of Chinese society by also exploring the lives of the people that live near the animals, talking about the ecological pressures faced by the animals and how, in some cases, this is being addressed by the Chinese government.

With just two DVDs, this BBC set of video documents covers a broad range of wild animals in many remote regions in China. Its contents are quite comprehensive, coherent.
Compared to other documentary videos, this set is excellent.

I am going to BUY this DVD somewhere! It is fascinating. It's not just about the animals; it's actually more about the people and their daily lives. The scenery is incredible. I did not know there were so many different types of mountains in China. It's like another planet. The narrator (Bernard Hill, "King Theoden" in Lord of the Rings") has a neat voice and doesn't mumble like David Attenborough (in Blue Planet). You need 3 weeks to watch this DVD.
