Crisscross America — on dogsleds and ships, stagecoaches and trains — from pirate ships off the coast of the Carolinas to the peace, love, and protests of 1960s Chicago. Join fifteen of today's most talented writers of young adult literature on a thrill ride through history with American girls charting their own course. They are monsters and mediums, bodyguards and barkeeps, screenwriters and schoolteachers, heiresses and hobos. They're making their own way in often-hostile lands, using every weapon in their arsenals, facing down murderers and marriage proposals. And they all have a story to tell.

This book is made up 15 short stories that are inspired by events and people throughout history. Some of the stories were more exciting than the others, but there was a few good ones among them. Still a good read for those who like historical fiction.

From Alaskan barkeeps facing down a criminal mastermind, to a bank robber who dreams of being a Bonnie without a Clyde, the women of A Tyranny of Petticoats are the heroes of their own stories. Stories by Y.S. Lee, Kekla Magoon, Beth Revis, Marie Lu, and others shine a light on some of the lesser-known eras of the American past, and they do so by placing teen girls in the heart of the action. This wonderful collection will appeal to readers of all ages and packs a truly girl-powered punch.
