A debut novel in a trilogy of original "Walking Dead" books chronicles the back story of the comic book series' greatest villain, The Governor.

McMillan Palgrave

The bestselling start of the original Walking Dead series, now in mass market!

In Robert Kirkman's Walking Dead universe, there is no greater villain than The Governor. The despot who runs the walled-off town of Woodbury, he has his own sick sense of justice: whether it's forcing prisoners to battle zombies in an arena for the townspeople's amusement, or chopping off the appendages of those who cross him. The Governor was voted "Villain of the Year" by Wizard magazine the year he debuted, and his story arc was the most controversial in the history of the Walking Dead comic book series. Now, for the first time, fans of The Walking Dead will discover The Governor's origins and just how he became the man he is, and what drove him to such extremes.

If, like me, you are late to the party, this is a really good book to start with. Absolutely should not be considered a YA read.

If you love The Walking Dead, show and/or comics, check this out!

It's a good standalone as well, but if you know The Governor from either the show or the comics you'll appreciate this a lot more.

The end has a plot twist that blew my mind, I still can't find the words.

Definitely 18+ due to content. Unsure why this one is shelved in YA when the rest of the series is adult.

Full review to come.

This book gave me a better understanding of the how and why of the Governor's existence. Very interesting read and great companion piece to the graphic novels (which are amazing, by the way).

I love the television drama series, ‘The Walking Dead.’ Rise of the Governor - The Walking Dead was a very interesting book. This book revealed a few facts that I had not known about the Governor. Doctor-at-Bass! T. A.

I read this novel, following the graphic novels and absolutely loved this book. It had great character development and an unanticipated twist. Definately a page turner.

Quite well-written .... considering it's a book about Zombies. I enjoyed it. It's probably better if you have read the graphic novels.

Written like a bad screen play, this is terrible. Don't bother. I only read it because I love the TV show and I was curious.

Great introduction of a pivotal character in the Walking Dead graphic novels and upcoming 3rd season of the AMC tv series. It's not necessary to have read the graphic novels first, but it sure blows your mind if you have.
