Wilhelm Boeck presents the artist's life and work in great detail, tracing the development of Picasso's career from his earliest attempts at drawing. He carries the reader through the maze of Picasso's inexhaustible styles and periods. Co-author Jaime Sabarte, an intimate of Picasso's since his youth in Barcelona, contributes some rarely and extremely revealing sides of the painter. Together with these two texts are over 606 reproductions. Of these: 38 full color plates, 2 double spreads in color effect, 4 pages in color offset, 136 reproductions in black-and-white halftone, 278 small reproductions in black-and-white halftone, 98 reproductions in black-and-white offset, 53 line cuts in the text.
