After reading "The White Angel", author John Gray (2017) I was intriged to read "Who Killed Janet Smith". In "The White Angel", the reasons suggested for why those involved behaved as they did are noir, as other readers have observed. I felt for the houseboy. "Who Killed Janet Smith" is extremely detailed and compelling. Both are excellent reads. An interesting, sometimes forgotten history of Vancouver politics, race and influence.

True life Canadian crime drama from the Golden Age of Fitzgerald. A sordid affair featuring corrupt politicians, corrupt police, international intrigue, uppercrust society, good old Canadian racism and an innocent abroad. Moves along at a good pace until the last quarter where it meanders a bit. Starkins remains fairly objective until the last few pages. Nice yarn.
